The River Ver is a watercourse in England . It arises on the eastern edge of Kensworth in Kensworth Lynch in Bedfordshire , on the border with Hertfordshire . Its course in a south-easterly direction forms the border between the two counties for a short distance along the A5 road . It runs above ground through Markyate and to junction 9 of the M1 motorway . Between the junction of the M1 and the northeastern end of Redbourn , the natural course of the river is partially underground. From Redbourn the river flows in a southerly direction to its confluence with the River Colne east of Bricket Wood .
