The Rivière Gens de Terre is a river in the Laurentides and Outaouais administrative regions of the Canadian province of Québec .
The Rivière Gens de Terre flows over a distance of 97 km from the Réservoir Cabonga in an easterly direction through the Réserve faunique La Vérendrye to the Réservoir Baskatong . The outflow is regulated by the Barrage Cabonga dam . The river flows through the Lac Saint-Amour , into which the Rivière Bélinge flows from the north. Shortly afterwards, the Rivière Gens de Terre passes the two river widenings Lac Poigan and Petit lac Poigan . It picks up the Rivière Wapus on the left. In the lower reaches, the two smaller rivers Rivère à la Carpe and Rivière Serpent flow into the river on the right. The Rivière Gens de Terre finally flows into the Baie Gens de Terre , a bay on the west bank of the Baskatong reservoir through which the river flows. The catchment area covers 5672 km². The mean discharge is 87 m³ / s.
The 25 km long stretch of river below the confluence of the Wapus River is popular for kayaking and canoeing . The degree of difficulty of the rapids is II-IV.
The river was previously used for rafting .
