The Rivière Matane is a river in the Bas-Saint-Laurent administrative region of the Canadian province of Québec .
The Rivière Matane rises in the northwest of the Gaspésie peninsula in the Réserve faunique de Matane on the 945 m high Mont Blanc , a summit of the Monts Chic-Chocs . From there it initially flows in a westerly direction to Lac de la Tête , then turns south and flows through the lakes Lac Le Clercq and Lac Matane . Here it takes up the left tributary Rivière Bonjour . It now flows in a west-south-west direction, turning to the north-west at the confluence of the Rivière à la Truite . It passes the towns of Rivière-Matane and Saint-René-de-Matane and finally flows into the estuary of the Saint Lawrence River in the small town of Matane . The river has a length of 80 km. It drains an area of 1683 km². The mean discharge is 41 m³ / s.
At the lower reaches, the river is used to generate electricity.
The Rivière Matane is an important spawning water for the Atlantic salmon .
