The Rivière Nemiscau is a right tributary of the Rivière Rupert in the Jamésie in the southwest of the Canadian province of Québec .
The river has its origin in a smaller lake east of Lac du Béryl. It flows in a predominantly westward direction through an area rich in lakes in the southwest of the Labrador Peninsula . The river forms numerous lake-like river widenings and flows through a number of medium-sized lakes. Finally, the River Rivière Nemiscau flows south-southwest of the Cree town of Nemaska (formerly Nemiscau) into the northeast end of Lake Nemiscau . The lake is traversed by the Rivière Rupert. The Rivière Nemiscau has a length of about 180 km. Its catchment area covers 3,015 km² and lies between the rivers of Rivière Rupert in the south and Rivière Eastmain in the north.
River diversion
As part of the partial drainage of the Rupert River and several tributaries (including the Rivière Nemiscau) to the Réservoir de l'Eastmain 1 , two dams are under construction on the upper reaches of the Rivière Nemiscau. Their task is to redirect the water to its new destination and to regulate the flow into the downstream part of the river.
