Rivière Opinaca is a river in the Canadian province of Québec .
It is a right tributary of the Rivière Eastmain , which flows into James Bay .
The river has its origin near the Lac Philibert lake in the center of the Labrador Peninsula . From there it flows 250 km in a westerly direction and meets the Rivière Eastmain, about 30 km before its confluence with James Bay.
With the establishment of the Réservoir Opinaca , the Opinaca and Eastmain rivers will be dammed together even before their original confluence. Much of the water is diverted north to the Robert-Bourassa Réservoir as part of the Baie James hydropower project . A bridge leads over the Rivière Opinaca along the Route de la Baie James .
