The Rivière du Chef is a major tributary of the Rivière Ashuapmushuan in the Canadian province of Québec .

The Rivière du Chef has its origin in the Lac File Ax - about 15 km southeast of Lac Mistassini . It initially flows through the Lac Carbonneau and Lac Laganière lakes . He continues his course south. Important tributaries of the Rivière du Chef are Rivière de la Petite Meule , Rivière Nestaocano and Rivière Azianne from the left and Rivière Hillarion from the right. Finally, after about 150 km, it meets the River Ashuapmushuan, which flows eastwards. A more than 350 km long canoe route leads from Lac Waconichi south of Lac Mistassini the entire course of the Rivière du Chef and further downstream on the Rivière Ashuapmushuan to Saint-Félicien .
