The Rivière du Sault aux Cochons is a river in the Côte-Nord administrative region of the Canadian province of Québec .
The Rivière du Sault aux Cochons has its origin in the lake Lac du Sault aux Cochons . This was merged with the neighboring lake Lac Kakuskanus to form a reservoir through the construction of two dams . At its northeastern end there is a derivation to the Réservoir Pipmuacan . Below the dam on the south-east bank, the Rivière du Sault aux Cochons flows off in a predominantly east-south-east direction. It takes in the tributaries of Rivière la Loche from the right and Rivière Isidore from the left. After about 120 km the river flows into the estuary of the Saint Lawrence River near the small town of Forestville .
Hydropower plants
Immediately in front of the mouth, the Barrage du Sault-aux-Cochons was built at the Chutes du Sault aux Cochons waterfall . Boralex operates a hydropower plant here with a total output of 12.5 MW. The drop height is 19.6 m.
