Rivka Zohar-Kalo ( Hebrew רבקה זהר-קָאלו, born June 30, 1948 in Akko ) is an Israeli singer . She became known as the interpreter of the song Ma awarech , composed by Jair Rosenblum and texted by Rachel Schapira in memory of the soldier Eldad (Dadi) Kruk who died in the Six Day War , and which is considered one of the most famous songs in memory of fallen Israeli soldiers.

Life

Rivka Zohar was born as Rivka Sinati (רבקה זינתי) was born in Akko into a Sephardic family originally from Morocco . She attended the Nahalal Agricultural School and studied in Akko. After her marriage to Shlomo Kalo , she was named Rivka Zohar-Kalo. Kalo died in 2014.

Musical early years

As a child she appeared on Tschu'ot Rishonot (he .: תְּשׁוּאוֹת ראשונות; Eng .: first applause ), a radio program to discover young talent. In 1967 she applied to an Israeli military band, but was not selected. Shortly afterwards she successfully applied to the composer and producer Ilan Mochiach .

Early in her military service, she performed with an accordionist in front of Israeli Navy soldiers. Her performances were well received and resulted in the creation of the Lehakat Cheil Ha-Jam (להקת חיל הים; German: military band of the Navy). During rehearsals for the Ubayom Hashlishi program (וביום השלישי; dt .: And on the third day ) Rosenblum presented the then still unknown Rivka Zohar with the song Ma awarech . The song became a hit in the 1968 interpretation of Zohar.

In 1969 Zohar sang the song Al Kapaw Jawi , Jair Rosenblum composed the music for it. The text was from Yoram Taharlev (יורם טהרלב). Al Kapaw Jawi was voted "Song of the Year" and won the David's Harp Award (פרס כינור דוד). The composer Natan Alterman , who was impressed by her voice, engaged her in 1969 for his musical Zaz und Zaza (צץ וצצה). He wrote Oriana especially for her (אוריאנה) and Semer Schlosch Hatschuwot (זֶמֶר שְלוש התשובות). It was also used for the performances of Gedalja Rewa Isch ( Hebrew גְּדַלְיָה רֶבַע אִישׁ; German: Gedalia, the man from the neighborhood ) and Bekerem Hatemanim ( Hebrew בכֶּרֶם התֵּימָנִים; German: In the Yemeni vineyard ) occupied.

Further career

In 1972 she traveled to New York with her first husband and young daughter Tamah . There she met the musician Ali, who played oud and darbuka , and with whom she worked for the next seven years. The song Haderech El Hakfar (הדרך אל הכפר; German: The way to the village ) brought Zohar back to her homeland. Her second husband, the Israeli author and philosopher Shlomo Kalo, wrote song lyrics for Zohar, including Avi hatow shäbaschamajim (אבי הטוב שבשָׁמַיִם; dt .: The Good Father who is now in Heaven ), Sipur Al Zipor (סיפור על צִפּוֹר; German: The fairy tale about the bird ), Lichijot Otam Ad Tom (לחיות אותם עד תֹּם; dt .: Live it [life] to the end ). In February 2007 she published her autobiography Ez ha-Sajit (עֵץ הזַיִת; Olive tree ) as a book; she also recorded the single Ohewet Othcha (אוהבת אותך; dt .: I love you ).

In September 2007 she performed again for the first time in 20 years at the Festival Rishon LeZion Lesamar Iwri (פסטיבל ראשון לציון לזמר עברי) on. Zohar appeared on the stage of the Rishon LeZion concert hall, accompanied by a symphony orchestra and the conductor / composer Ilan Mochiach. Her show Chelkat Elohim combined old and new songs.

In 2012 the singer Liron Lew (לירון לב) and Rivka Zohar, at the suggestion of the composer Arye Levanon , formed a musical team and together gave the show Lo kemo Etmol (לֹא כְּמו אֶתְמוֹלֹ; German: Not like yesterday ). Rivka Zohar wrote the lyrics and Liron Lev composed the music.
