Roßstadt is a district of Eltmann and is located in the east of the Bavarian district of Haßberge directly on the Main . The largest colony of gray herons in southern Germany is located between Roßstadt and the neighboring town of Dippach am Main , with around 200 breeding pairs .

geography

Roßstadt is located at the northern gate of the Steigerwald on federal highway 26 . The city of Eltmann is around 5.5 kilometers away. After Bamberg is 13 kilometers.

The neighboring towns of Dippach and Trunstadt are about two kilometers away. On the opposite side of the Main, the town of Stettfeld is within sight .

history

The first settlement of the place took place before the year 531 by the tribe of the Thuringians. The name Roßstadt also testifies to its Thuringian origin . From the typical Thuringian Ro-stadt, the name developed over time to Rastatt, Rostatt and finally Roßstadt. The original meaning of the place name can probably be traced back to the residence of the Radi and not, as is often wrongly assumed, to Roßstadt - the site of the horses . Roßstadt was an independent municipality until it was incorporated into the city of Eltmann on May 1, 1978.

religion

Roßstadt is strongly influenced by the Roman Catholic influence. The small church of St. George , which adorns the town center, bears witness to this . The church was built in 1747 by the builder Johann Jacob Michael Küchel . Unlike the city of Eltmann, Roßstadt does not belong to the diocese of Würzburg, but to the parish of Trunstadt in the archbishopric of Bamberg .

Events

Every year on the third weekend in October the parish fair takes place.
