Robert "Rob" James-Collier (born September 23, 1976 in Stockport , Greater Manchester ) is a British actor . He was best known for his roles in the television series Coronation Street and Downton Abbey .
Life
James-Collier studied economics at Huddersfield University Business School and graduated with a Masters in Marketing from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).
He gained his first acting experience during a study project of a befriended art student. Shortly afterwards, James-Collier, who was still working as a marketing assistant at the time, began taking acting lessons. In 2005 he got his first role in the BBC One production Down To Earth . In the meantime he also worked as a model.
The following year the role as Liam Connor in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street followed , which he played until 2008. The role earned him several awards at the British Soap Awards . He ended his engagement with Coronation Street because he no longer wanted to be locked into that one role. In 2010 he was given the role of the servant Thomas Barrow in the ITV production Downton Abbey , which he played until the conclusion of the series with the sixth season in 2015 and in the feature film of 2019.
