biography

Wiethoff was born in Seymour in 1976 and grew up there. He studied General Studies at Indiana University and graduated there. During his student days he met a woman with whom he went to Los Angeles , where he originally intended to stay for a week. In Los Angeles, however, some people promised him to be able to hire him for acting jobs, so he moved entirely to Los Angeles. However, all of the big promises turned out to be empty, so Wiethoff initially worked as a bartender. From time to time he played small supporting roles in films or in commercials.

In December 2008, Wiethoff received a call from his advisor that he had an invitation to a casting for a video game for which Wiethoff is supposed to audition. Wiethoff appeared for this casting, but was demotivated because he was of the opinion that he would not get the role anyway, but he ended the casting. However, a few days later, to his own surprise, he received word that he had received the role, and recording began in January 2009. The game was eventually called Red Dead Redemption and was developed by rock star San Diego . Wiethoff took on the role of the playable protagonist John Marston , a former outlaw who has left his old, criminal and violent life behind and now wants to lead a quiet life with his family, but certain circumstances keep him from doing it again and again. The story takes place in 1911, at the end of the era of the Wild West .

Wiethoff's role as John Marston was the breakthrough for him, because the video game became a box-office hit and Wiethoff received many positive reviews for his successful synchronization. In 2013, Wiethoff was selected by the video game magazine Game Informer 's as one of the top ten video game voice actors of all time and he was second in Complex's list of the 25 best voice actors of all time in a video game . Wiethoff has also received several awards and nominations.

In August 2013 it was announced that Wiethoff would be the voice of Lazarus in the iOS game code-named Cygnus . He then more or less announced his retirement from the film industry and declared that from now on he wanted to devote more time to his family. For the equally successful prequel Red Dead Redemption 2 , Wiethoff slipped again into the role of a younger John Marston. The work on this took place between 2014 and 2018, the game was released in 2018 and was also a great success.

Private

Rob Wiethoff met his wife in Los Angeles while working on Red Dead Redemption. After the game was released in May 2010, the couple decided to move to Wiethoff's hometown of Seymour to raise their two sons, who are twins. The twins are premature births and were born three months early and therefore had to remain in hospital for a while after the birth. They are also autistic , which is one reason why Wiethoff is socially committed to autistic children .

In addition to his job as an actor or voice actor, Wiethoff also works as a construction worker. He has several tattoos on his right arm, including a revolver and a crucifix .
