Robert Abernathy

Robert Harwood Abernathy (born June 6, 1924 in Tucson , Arizona ; died April 6, 1990 ) was an American science fiction writer.

Life

Abernathy studied Slavic languages from 1945 at Harvard University , where he received his doctorate in 1951. Until his retirement he was Professor of Slavic Studies at the University of Colorado with a focus.

He published numerous short stories in the SF magazines of the Golden Age of Science Fiction during the 1940s and 1950s , initially in Astounding , then in Planet Stories and later mostly in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction . The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction characterizes him as a "reliable, respectable author" who stopped publishing with the decline of SF magazines and the transition to the paperback series. As a Slavist, he also translated works in Stanisław Lem into English.
