Robert Ackman

Robert George Ackman , OC (born September 27, 1927 in Dorchester , New Brunswick , † July 16, 2013 in Halifax , Nova Scotia ) was a Canadian chemist and professor at the Technical University of Nova Scotia . Ackman became known for his basic research in the field of omega-3 fatty acids .

Life

After studying organic chemistry at the University of Toronto , from which he graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts , Ackman received a Master of Science degree from Dalhousie University in 1952 and his doctorate in 1956 at the University of London . From 1950 he worked for the Canadian government in the field of marine science , initially as a research assistant and from 1956 to 1979 as a full-time chemist. As part of this activity, he was appointed a member of the Chemical Institute of Canada in 1972 . This was followed by a call to the Technical University of Nova Scotia, where he worked as a professor at the Institute for Fishery Technology until his retirement in 1995. During this time, Ackman published over 550 scientific papers and articles.
