Robert Brown (* 1873 in Hebburn , † March 1935 ) was an English football player and coach .
Career
After a career in amateur football in his home region in the northeast of England , he began as a scout for Sheffield Wednesday . In 1911 he started at Portsmouth as Secretary Manager. He held this office for nine years until he became Secretary of Gillingham FC in May 1920 . This relationship lasted only four weeks, however, and was ended before he coached the team at any game. The reason was an offer from Sheffield Wednesday. Under his leadership, Sheffield Wednesday managed to return to the top division. The championship was celebrated just four years after the promotion (1929), and this success was also achieved a year later. After 13 years at Sheffield, he ended his coaching career in 1933, one year after the death of his wife, for health reasons. In 1935 he collapsed at Leeds train station and died 24 hours later. He was buried in Wadsley , Sheffield .
