Robert Solli Burås (born August 12, 1975 in Vassdalen in Bjerkvik in the municipality of Narvik , † July 12, 2007 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian guitarist and songwriter for the rock band Madrugada . Considered one of the best rock guitarists in the country, he was known for his soulful yet powerful style.

Madrugada

Robert Burås formed his first band at the age of 12, his idols were Elvis and Led Zeppelin among others . With Jon Lauvland Pettersen and Frode Jacobsen, he formed the band Abbey's Adoption, which renamed itself after the merger with singer Sivert Høyem in Madrugada and became one of the most successful Scandinavian bands. Four of Madrugada's five albums reached number 1 on the Norwegian charts, the last record - "Live at Tralfamadore" - held him for eleven weeks. Both “Live at Tralfamadore” and its predecessor “The Deep End” sold more than 100,000 copies. In 2006 the band received three Spellemann prizes . Recordings for a new Madrugada album took place in spring 2007.

My Midnight Creeps

In 2005 Burås founded the band My Midnight Creeps , which released their first record in 2005. Here he was guitarist, songwriter and singer and gave the songs his stamp with his rough and hoarse voice. The second album - "Histamin" - came out in March 2007, the band was booked for concerts and festivals in the summer of 2007.

Instruments

Burås mainly played a black Gibson Les Paul Custom from the 70s and a Fender Stratocaster in sunburst paint, later he also performed with a brown Gibson ES-345 . His main guitar, which with its "Twang" significantly shaped the sound of Madrugada in quieter (without guitar distortion) pieces, was an old Fender Jazzmaster from the 60s in the color "Candy Apple Red". He also played acoustic guitars (also twelve-string) and an occasional electric mandolin.

death

Burås was found dead in his apartment by a friend. The police are silent about the cause of death. A third party negligence is excluded. It was known that he lived his rock music life "with a challenging lifestyle to the full". During the funeral ceremony on July 18, it was revealed that Burås had been found with a guitar in his arms. At the ceremony, the red Jazzmaster lay on his coffin.
