Robert C. Titus
Robert Cyrus Titus (born October 24, 1839 in Eden , Erie County , New York , † April 27, 1918 in Buffalo, New York ) was an American lawyer and politician.
Live and act
Titus attended Oberlin College from 1859 to 1860 after general schooling . He then completed a law degree with Horace Boies , was admitted to the bar in 1865 and practiced in Hamburg . In 1867 he married Arvilla Clark, and the marriage had two children. From 1868 to 1871 Titus was mayor of the US city of Hamburg (New York), which was named after the German city of Hamburg.
In 1873 he moved to Buffalo and served from 1878 to 1880 District Attorney of Erie County and from 1882 to 1885 as a member of the New York Senate (31st District) in the 105th, 106th, 107th and 108th New York Legislation.
He was a judge on the Buffalo Superior Court from 1886 to 1895. That court was abolished by the 1894 Constitution and the judges were transferred to the New York Supreme Court (8th D.) with limited jurisdiction in January 1896 for the remainder of their term.
In the New York state elections in 1896, Titus ran for the New York Court of Appeals , but was defeated by Republican Irving G. Vann .
In 1901, Titus and Loran L. Lewis were appointed by the court to defend Leon Czolgosz in the trial for the murder of President William McKinley .
