Robert Clements, 1st Earl of Leitrim (born November 25, 1732 - † July 27, 1804 ) was an Irish - British nobleman and politician .

He was the older son of the Irish politician Rt. Hon. Nathaniel Clements († 1777) from his marriage to Hannah Gore.

From 1758 to 1804 he held the position of Controller of the Great and Small Customs in the port of Dublin . In 1759 he was High Sheriff of County Leitrim . From 1772 to 1773 he was Commissioner of the Irish Revenue . He was an MP in the Irish House of Commons for County Donegal from 1776 to 1768 and 1776 to 1785 and from 1768 to 1776 for Carrick . In 1777 he was governor of County Leitrim. From 1777 to 1804 he held the office of Custos Rotulorum of County Donegal and from 1777 to 1787 he was also the ranger of Phoenix Park in Dublin. In 1781 he was governor of County Donegal.

On October 11, 1783 he was raised in the Peerage of Ireland to Baron Leitrim , of Manor Hamilton in the County of Leitrim, and thereby became a member of the Irish House of Lords . On December 20, 1793 he was also raised to Viscount Leitrim and on October 6, 1795 to the Earl of Leitrim . On the occasion of the dissolution of the Irish Parliament by the Act of Union 1800 , he was elected as representative peer in the British House of Lords . In 1802 he was admitted to the Privy Councilor for Ireland.

In 1765 he married Lady Elizabeth Skeffington (1738-1817), daughter of Clotworthy Skeffington, 1st Earl of Massereene . He had five children with her:

When he died in 1804, his eldest son Nathaniel inherited him as 2nd Earl. He was buried in St. Michan's Church in Dublin.
