Robert Downie (born March 18, 1867 in Glasgow , † July 27, 1893 ) was a Scottish football goalkeeper .
Career
Robert Downie was born in Glasgow in 1867. At least from 1889 to 1893 he played in his hometown for Third Lanark, which was founded in 1872 as the 3rd Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers military club. With the club he won the Scottish Cup in the final against Celtic Glasgow in 1889 . In addition to appearances in the cup, he also played in the newly founded Scottish Football League from the 1890/91 season . In 1892 the goalkeeper completed an international match for Scotland against Wales which was won 6-1 at Tynecastle Park . After the end of the 1892/93 season , Downie died at the age of 26.
