Robert Rivers Everett (born June 26, 1921 in Yonkers , New York - † August 15, 2018 in Cape Cod , Massachusetts ) was an American computer engineer.

Everett studied electrical engineering at Duke University with a bachelor's degree in 1942 and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a master's degree in 1943. He then assisted Jay Wright Forrester in the development of the Whirlwind computer (or simulation system) at MIT. The project not only led to many impulses in computer development (for example real-time data processing), but also formed the basis of the SAGE system for air defense, which was developed under the direction of Everett from 1956. This also led to the founding of the Miter Corporation , of which he was technical director from 1956 to 1958. In 1959 he became Vice President of Technology, 1969 Executive Vice President and 1969 to 1986 President of MITER.

He was a Fellow of the Computer History Museum , the IEEE, and the National Academy of Engineering . In 1989 he received the National Medal of Technology .
