Robert Fowler (cyclist)

Robert Gerard "Bobby" Fowler (born December 3, 1931 in Krugersdorp , † December 27, 2001 in Johannesburg ) was a South African racing cyclist .

Robert Fowler took part in the Olympic Games three times. In 1952 in Helsinki he started in three disciplines, in the individual road race, in the team time trial and in the team pursuit . With the South African track four ( Tommy Shardelow , Jimmy Swift , George Estman ) he won the silver medal. 1956 in Melbourne he could neither finish the road race nor the team time trial. In the team pursuit, the South African team (Jimmy Swift, Abe Jonker , Jan Hettema ) finished fourth. Four years later, at the games in Rome , the four-man team was eliminated in the first round.

In 1954 Fowler won the bronze medal in the singles pursuit at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver . He was also successful in road races, especially in South Africa. In 1955 he won the Johannesburg- Paarl marathon over 1,361 kilometers.
