Robert Francis Joyce

Robert Francis Joyce (born October 7, 1896 in Proctor , Vermont , USA ; † September 2, 1990 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Burlington .

Life

Robert Francis Joyce studied at the University of Vermont and the seminary in Montréal . He received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Burlington on May 26, 1923 through Bishop Joseph John Rice . In addition to activities in pastoral care, he headed the Cathedral High School in Burlington from 1927 to 1932 . From 1943 to 1946 he was chaplain (Chaplain) in the United States Army .

On July 8, 1954, Pope Pius XII appointed him . as titular bishop of Citium and auxiliary bishop in Burlington. The Bishop of Burlington, Edward Francis Ryan , ordained him episcopal on October 28 of that year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Manchester , Matthew Francis Brady , and the Bishop of Norwich , Bernard Joseph Flanagan .

After the death of Bishop Ryan, Pope Pius XII appointed him. Bishop of Burlington on December 29, 1956. The inauguration took place on February 26 of the following year. He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On December 14, 1971, Pope Paul VI. his age-related retirement.
