Matthew Francis Brady

Matthew Francis Brady (born January 15, 1893 in Waterbury , Connecticut , USA , † September 20, 1959 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Manchester .

Life

Matthew Francis Brady studied at the Seminary of St. Thomas of the Diocese of Hartford , at the American College in Leuven , Belgium, and at St. Bernard's Seminary in Rochester . He received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Hartford on June 10, 1916 through Bishop John Joseph Nilan . Until 1918 he was a military chaplain (Chaplain) in the United States Army . He then worked in the pastoral care of the Hartford diocese. From 1922 to 1932 he taught at the St. Thomas Seminary.

On July 30, 1938, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Burlington . The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Amleto Giovanni Cicognani , ordained him episcopal on October 26 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Hartford, Maurice Francis McAuliffe , and the Bishop of Portland , Joseph Edward McCarthy .

On November 11, 1944, Pope Pius XII appointed him . to the Bishop of Manchester .
