Joseph John Rice

Joseph John Rice (born December 6, 1871 in Leicester , Massachusetts , USA , † March 31, 1938 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and Bishop of Burlington .

Life

Joseph John Rice studied at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester , the University of Laval in Montréal , Canada, and the Collegio Urbano de Propaganda Fide in Rome . He received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Springfield on September 29, 1894 through Bishop Thomas Daniel Beaven . He has served in the pastoral care of the Springfield Diocese and among the Indians of northern Maine . He also taught at St. John's Seminary in Brighton .

On January 8, 1910, Pope Pius X appointed him Bishop of Burlington . The Bishop of Springfield, Thomas Daniel Beaven, ordained him Episcopal on April 14 of that year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Providence , Matthew Harkins , and the Bishop of Portland , Louis Sebastian Walsh .

He found his final resting place in Resurrection Park in South Burlington .
