Bernard Joseph Flanagan

Bernard Joseph Flanagan (born March 31, 1908 in Proctor , Vermont , USA ; † January 28, 1998 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Worcester .

Life

Bernard Joseph Flanagan received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Burlington on December 8, 1931 .

On September 1, 1953, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Norwich . The Bishop of Burlington, Edward Francis Ryan , ordained him episcopal on November 30 of that year ; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Raleigh , Vincent Stanislaus Waters , and the auxiliary bishop in Saint Louis , John Patrick Cody .

Pope John XXIII appointed him Bishop of Worcester on August 8, 1959 . The inauguration followed on September 24 of the same year.

Flanagan participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On March 31, 1983, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
