Robert Fuest

Robert Fuest (born September 30, 1927 in London , England , † March 21, 2012 ibid) was a British director , set designer and screenwriter .

Career

Fuest has mainly worked in the horror and fantasy genres . In the late 1960s he directed several episodes of the well-known agent series Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone . His best-known films include classics such as The Cabinet of Horrors of Dr. Phibes and The Return of Dr. Phibes with Vincent Price in the title role and other films that are often characterized by subliminal black humor.

He also directed the novel adaptation Sturmhöhe (with Timothy Dalton ) and in thrillers such as Deadly Holidays , which received good reviews but achieved little commercial success, or the horror film , shot in the USA, At Night When Corpses Scream . The latter, however, received such scathing comments that his career was damaged. From the mid-1970s, Robert Fuest directed largely unknown television productions and series. The only well-known recent production is the erotic film Aphrodite - In the tropics of desire (with Horst Buchholz ), which was filmed in Greece.

In addition to his work as a director and production designer, he also wrote several scripts, for example for The Return of Dr. Phibes . He wrote six episodes of the television series The Optimist , which he also directed.
