Robert Gill

Robert Gill (born July 19, 1916 in Ashford , Kent , † April 16, 1955 in Hammersmith , London ) was a British composer . He created some musical works for British cinema in the 1950s. life and career

Robert Gill was born in Ashford, Kent, in 1916. His first musical work Sinister Street No. 1 was still under the pseudonym Peter Franklyn. At the end of the 1940s he then commented on the music of fellow composer Benjamin Frankel in specialist articles in music magazines such as the Monthly Musical Record or in the BBC magazine The Listener under his own name. In 1950 he composed for director David MacDonald his first film score for the big screen to the thriller Attention! Cairo ... opium smuggler starring Eric Portman and Laurence Harvey . This was followed in 1952 by other film music works for directors such as Leslie Arliss ' romantic drama The Woman's Angle , Compton Bennett's Wenn das Herz speaks with Maria Schell and Marius Goring or Victor Saville's drama Affair in Monte Carlo with the cast Merle Oberon , Richard Todd and Leo Genn . The following year he composed the music for Jack Lee's adventure in Algiers with Van Heflin and Wanda Hendrix . This was followed by other compositions for films such as Valley of Song or The Good Beginning by director Gilbert Gunn. He wrote his last music for a movie in 1954 for Lewis Milestone's prominent war drama with Dirk Bogarde , Denholm Elliott and Akim Tamiroff .

In addition to his work in film, he most recently worked for the television series Rheingold Theater , where he contributed the music for three episodes.

Robert Gill then died on April 16, 1955 at the age of 38 in Hammersmith, London.
