Robert Greifeld (born July 18, 1957 in Queens , New York ) is currently the CEO of the NASDAQ OMX Group , one of the largest international stock exchange operators .

life and career

Greifeld was born in Queens , New York , to an Italian-American mother and an Irish-German father. For 20 years of his life he worked in the technology industry and developed the first electronic exchange trading systems. He helped NASDAQ achieve tremendous sales growth in just nine quarters. In 2006, when Greifeld became CEO , the NASDAQ was more successful than ever (since the beginning of the financial record in 1997) and by 2005 the NASDAQ-OMX share was already number 1 of all markets.

The salary for 2012 totaled $ 8.9 million, whereas in 2011 he received $ 1.3 million less.

Robert Greifeld is an outspoken advocate of efficient capital markets, good regulation and ensuring the steady growth of the US markets.

Prior to joining NASDAQ in May 2003, Greifeld was Vice President of SunGard , a US technology company. He holds a master's degree in economics from New York University's Stern School of Business and a bachelor of arts degree in English from Iona College .

Greifeld lives in Westfield, New Jersey with his wife and 3 children .
