Life

Alva Forrest and Catherine Corber's son attended Topeka public schools. In 1943 he finished Topeka High School. He then studied as part of the US Navy V-12 Training Program at the University of Kansas and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in aircraft technology in 1946 . In 1950 he received his Juris Doctor degree with cum laude. He was second best in his class and received a scholarship. Until 1951 he studied at the University of Michigan and obtained the Doctor of Juridical Science.

After completing his education, he began working for the law firm Steptoe and Johnson . In 1957 he became a partner in the firm. His main focus of activity was in the transport sector. From 1960 to 1968 he held senior positions in the Republican Party in Virginia .

After W. Donald Brewer's resignation in 1974, he was nominated as Republican representative in December of that year for his seat on the Interstate Commerce Commission. Confirmation by the Senate with a remaining term of office until December 31, 1976 took place on March 3, 1975. On March 13, 1975, he began his work and ended it on December 1, 1976. The vacant seat was not returned until 1981 with Reese H. Taylor Jr. occupied.

Corber then worked as a lawyer again until his retirement, initially with Conner, Moore & Corber until 1980 and then again with Steptoe and Johnson until 1996.

Robert J. Corber was married twice. His first marriage to Joan Tennal (1930–1987) in 1949 had four children. In 1989 he married Deborah Perkins Corkey.
