Robert Kayser

Robert Kayser (born January 15, 1805 in Naumburg , † October 27, 1877 in Hamburg ) was a German businessman , banker and local politician .

Life

After completing a commercial apprenticeship, Kayser went to Chile in 1829 . After a while in Chile, he founded the trading company Kayser, Hayn & Co. in Mazatlán together with Max Theodor Hayn , in which he was a partner. In 1839 Kayser returned to Hamburg. In 1843, together with Hayn and Kunhardt, he founded a company in Valparaíso that existed until 1849, the same year the Kayser, Hayn & Co. company in Mazatlán was dissolved. Kayser took the Hamburg citizen oath in 1843 . With his business partners, he founded the Kunhardt, Kayser & Hayn company in Hamburg in 1846 , which was renamed Kayser & Hayn after Kunhardt's death in 1850 . When Hayn left in 1854, the company only traded under the name of Robert Kayser and existed until 1865.

Kayser was one of the founders of the Norddeutsche Bank in 1856 and was seen as one of the driving forces. He was involved with a starting capital of 500,000 marks Banco . He was a member of the board of directors of the Norddeutsche Bank from 1856 to 1877 as deputy chairman.

From 1850 Kayser was a member of the Commerzdeputation , which he headed as President in 1856. Kayser was also engaged in various voluntary work in various deputations in Hamburg. From 1859 to 1862, from 1862 to 1868 and from 1871 to 1877 he was a member of the Hamburg parliament .

In Hamburg's Ohlsdorf cemetery , merchants from the Althamburg Memorial Cemetery are remembered on one of the collective grave plates, including Robert Kayser.
