Robert Kuhn (artist)
Robert Kuhn (born May 3, 1905 in Posen , † 1999 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor , painter and graphic artist .
Life
After an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor in Berlin, he found artistic inspiration in southern Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. From 1928 he studied at the Berlin-Charlottenburg School of Applied Arts (KGS), specializing in building sculpture. After completing his studies in 1929, he got a job in Ernst Böhm's studio and worked from 1931 to 1933 as a commercial artist for John Heartfield and Erwin Piscator . In 1933 Robert Kuhn was arrested by the SA for illegally producing leaflets and was banned from working from 1933 to 1943. 1943–1945 he was used in the notorious criminal battalion of the Wehrmacht as a soldier in Greece.
After the end of the war he became a consultant in the newly created administration for popular education in Berlin and from 1946 was able to work again as a commercial artist for the Volk und Wissen publishing house . 1950–1970 he taught at the Institute for Art Education at the Humboldt University in Berlin. From 1971 Robert Kuhn worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist. He was a member of the Association of Fine Artists of the GDR. Reinhard Dietrich was a student of Robert Kuhn .
Exhibitions
Robert Kuhn exhibited his works of art in the German Art Exhibition Dresden in 1953 and 1958, as well as in the District Art Exhibition in Berlin in 1954, 1957, 1960 and 1975.
