Robert L. Shafer

Robert L. Shafer (born May 10, 1932 in Amery , Wisconsin ) is an American lawyer and lobbyist. Since June 8, 2004, the Knight of the Sovereign Order of Malta has been the Order 's Permanent Observer with the rank of Ambassador to the United Nations in New York City .

Life

Shafer studied at St. John's University in Collegeville , Minnesota , where he received a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He received his Juris Doctor (JD) from the College of Law at Georgetown University in Washington, DC As a lawyer, he was admitted to the Federal Bar , the Bar of the District of Columbia and the Bar of the State of Wisconsin .

Shafer is married, his wife Ellen is a lady of the Order of Malta.

Shafer spent 30 years with Pfizer , a global pharmaceutical company , and held several senior positions with the company. Among other things, he was responsible for public relations and contact with the government. He retired in 1996. Since June 2004 he has been the Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Order of Malta at the United Nations in New York City.
