Robert Leistenschneider

Robert Leistenschneider (born June 7, 1894 in Merzig ; † June 13, 1968 in Berlin ) was a German production manager or production manager for Reich German, West German and GDR films.

Leistenschneider had spent his early adult years on the battlefield: in 1914 he volunteered as a war volunteer, was wounded and released from medical treatment in January 1919. He got to know the film business between June 1919 and June 1921 from his uncle, a cultural film producer and film distributor. In 1921 Leistenschneider took acting lessons in Munich and attended the German Film School located there from October 1921 to April 1923. At the same time (from July to December 1922) he trained in the field of technical issues at the 'Higher Technical School for Photo Technology and Cinematography'.

Leistenschneider gained his first practical experience, initially mainly under the director Géza von Bolváry , as a unit manager. In this role he worked from 1923 to 1932 on, among other things, “Wüstenrausch”, “Girls You Don't Marry”, “Impostor against Will”, “Women who are not allowed to love”, “The Princess of the Riviera”, Heinz Rühmann's film -Debut “Das deutsche Mutterherz”, “Fräulein Mama”, “The Queen of Variety”, “ Hotel Rats ”, “The Toys of Beautiful Women”, “Furnished Rooms”, “Between 14 and 17” and “The Dangers of Bridal Time .

Since the end of 1932 Leistenschneider worked regularly as a production manager (and occasionally also as a production manager) for a wide variety of companies, from 1934 to 1936 also in Austria. During the Second World War (1941 to 1945) he concentrated exclusively on the production of Rühmann strips, including his classic comedy Quax, the Bruchpilot and Die Feuerzangenbowle .

After the war, Robert Leistenschneider was temporarily responsible for DEFA productions, from 1953 only for films by German companies.
