from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Maxwell, 2nd Lord Maxwell († between April 22 and May 8, 1485 ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

He was the eldest son of Herbert Maxwell, 1st Lord Maxwell from his marriage to a daughter of Herbert Herries of Terregles.

Robert Maxwell was born probably around 1405. With the death of his father on February 14, 1454 he took over his land and the title of 2nd Lord Maxwell .

In the years 1457 and 1459 he is named as a conservator of truces with England ("keeper of peace with England", probably a kind of supreme parliamentary), at this time he already held the offices of " Admiral and Warden of the Marches". In November 1469 he became a member of parliament under King James III. after he had removed the Boyd family from parliament in the conflict with the family .

By his marriage, before February 14, 1425, to Janet Forrester, daughter of John Forrester of Corstorphine, he had five sons; John , Thomas, David, Robert and Aymer, as well as two daughters; Agnes and Christian. An old source also documents a "Maister Johne of Maxwell, eme of Lord Maxwell" (eme = uncle = uncle) for the year 1486 , possibly an illegitimate son.
