Robert Moore Williams

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Moore Williams (born June 19, 1907 in Farmington , Missouri ; died May 12, 1977 in Dateland , Yuma County , Arizona ) was an American writer, primarily a science fiction writer .

Life

Williams was the son of John Browning Williams and Ida May Williams, nee Moore. He studied journalism at the Missouri School of Journalism of the University of Missouri , where he received the Bachelor graduated. From 1937 he worked as a full-time writer. In 1938 he married Margaret Jelley and had a daughter with her. In 1952 the marriage ended in divorce.

Williams' first SF short story Zero as a Limit appeared in the July 1937 issue of Astounding . In the following 35 years he published around 160 short stories and over 25 novels, over a dozen of which appeared in German translation, mostly shortened in the magazine series of the 1960s and 1970s. As a competent author, he is often considered to be quite exciting, mostly rather short novels in which he often follows conventional patterns, for example in his Jongor series, a Tarzan variant set in the Australian bush , enriched with dinosaurs. He often wrote under a pseudonym, using John S. Browning, HH Harmon, Russell Storm and the publisher's pseudonym EK Jarvis. Several of Williams's short stories were used as models for television series episodes.

In 1977 Williams died at the age of 69.
