Robert Rast

Robert Rast (* 1920 ; † May 16, 1946 ) was a Swiss activist and soul mate of Hans Urs von Balthasars .

biography

Rast grew up in a noble Lucerne family. He graduated high school diploma at the Benedictine monks in the monastery Engelberg . He then studied at the universities of Basel and Freiburg i. Üe. "Philosophy of Civilization". His goal was to become an ambassador of Christianity in order to start a spiritual dialogue with National Socialism . Together with Hans Urs von Balthasar, he founded a “training community” (SG) in 1941, became its first director, and soon afterwards the “Academic Working Group” (AAG).

He wrote articles, his most important work Vom Sinn der Kultur as well as, in the "Klosterberg" collection, selected texts by Johann Gottfried von Herder . After receiving his doctorate , he decided to join the Jesuit order . Soon afterwards his lungs became sick , after which he spent a year in the sanatorium of Leysin , where he devoted himself to the translation of Louis Lallemant's Doctrine spiritual . He died on May 16, 1946; his grave is close to that of Hans Urs von Balthasar at the Lucerne court church .
