Robert Rich, 3rd Earl of Warwick

Robert Rich, 3rd Earl of Warwick ( June 28, 1611 - May 29, 1659 in London ) was an English nobleman and politician .

He was the eldest son of Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick , from his first marriage to Frances Hatton.

On the occasion of the coronation of King Charles I , he was made Knight of the Bath in 1626 . In 1628 and 1640 he was elected Knight of the Shire for Essex in the English House of Commons . By Writ of Acceleration he was appointed to the House of Lords on January 26, 1641 and thereby inherited the subordinate title of his father as 5th Baron Rich . When his father died in 1658 he inherited him as 3rd Earl of Warwick .

During the English Civil War he initially sided with the king. He later paid a parliamentary fine on him and vowed not to raise arms against the Commonwealth of England .

On April 9, 1632 he married his first marriage in Battersea , Surrey, Lady Anne Cavendish (1611-1638), daughter of William Cavendish, 2nd Earl of Devonshire . With her he had a son, Robert Rich (1634-1658), who married Frances Cromwell, daughter of the Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell , but died in 1658 childless.

After the death of his first wife, he married Anne Cheeke, daughter of Sir Thomas Cheeke and his aunt Essex Rich. With her he had three daughters, Lady Essex Rich, who married Daniel Finch, 7th Earl of Winchilsea and 2nd Earl of Nottingham , in 1674 , Lady Anne Rich, who in 1664 married Thomas Barrington, the son and heir of Sir John Barrington, 3rd. Baronet, and Mary Rich (1652–1678), who married Henry St. John, 1st Viscount St. John , in 1673 .

He died in 1659 and was buried in Felsted , Essex . Since he had no sons, his younger brother Charles inherited his title of nobility in 1659 .
