Robert ( Roberto ) Steiner (born January 14, 1941 in Milan ; † March 7, 2016 in Lamole, Greve in Chianti ) was a Swiss art historian and artist.

life and work

Robert Steiner studied art history at the University of Bern and received his doctorate in 1974 under Hans R. Hahnloser . From 1969 to 1976 he was assistant and senior assistant to Eduard Hüttinger at the chair for art history at the University of Bern. His habilitation thesis from 1976, which was not published, was about the Renaissance artist Perino del Vaga . Steiner taught as a private lecturer in Bern until 1980 and then moved to Lamole in Chianti, where he worked as a freelance artist. From 1987 to 1990 he was a lecturer in art history at the University of Trieste .
