Robert Tracy

Robert Tracy (born 1955 in Boston , Massachusetts , † June 7, 2007 ) was an American dancer and author .

Life

Tracy graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs as a dancer. Tracy studied Latin, Greek and classical ballet at New York University and went to the School of American Ballet in New York City for further training in ballet . In 1979 he got an engagement as a professional dancer in the ballet comedy Der Bürger als Edelmann by George Balanchine . Tracy got a job at Fordham University and taught the history of dance. In 1983 he published his first book, Balanchine's Ballerinas: Conversations With the Muses, as the author . Further works and contributions on the subjects of dance, theater, music and art followed over the next two decades.

From 1979 to 1993 Tracy was the partner of the dancer Rudolf Nureyev .
