Roberto Carretero Díaz (born August 30, 1975 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish tennis player .
Carretero won his only career title ( ATP Tour ) in 1996 at the German Open in Hamburg . The tournament victory of the previously inconspicuous Spaniard, who defeated Yevgeny Kafelnikow in the semifinals and Àlex Corretja in the final, was the first of a qualifier at the Masters tournament in Hamburg.
After this surprising success, however, it was quiet about Carretero. He fell further and further from the top position in the world rankings 58, which he had reached after his victory in Hamburg. On the ATP Challenger Tour he was able to celebrate a tournament victory in Sopot in 1999 .
After the 2001 season, Carretero ended his professional career.
