Roberto Straal

Roberto Straal (born December 19, 1966 in Arnhem ) is a former Dutch football player who mostly played on the position of pre-stopper .

Career

The 1.92 meter tall Straal, whose ancestors come from Suriname , began his career in 1986 with De Graafschap in the second Dutch football league. After a year he moved to his hometown club Vitesse Arnheim , established himself there as a regular and played there until 1994, where he took part in the club's rise to the top of the Netherlands and played 14 times in the UEFA Cup . After a rather mixed year at MVV Maastricht , he was transferred to SC Heerenveen . With the Frisian club he came back into the UEFA Cup and stayed until 1998. Then he dared the leap into the Bundesliga to Arminia Bielefeld . At the side of his compatriots Rob Maas and Sonny Silooy , Straal completed 26 games in the first and second leagues in three years before ending his career.

After an interlude as a coach at the amateur club Volharding, Straal is now a marketing employee at his home club Vitesse Arnhem.
