Robin Kovács (born November 16, 1996 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League since July 2016 .
Career
Kovács played in the junior teams of the Flemingsberg IK until 2011 . For the 2011/12 season, the striker then moved to AIK Solna , where he played for the club's U18 juniors over the next two years. During the 2012/13 season he made his professional debut in the Elitserien . In the following game year, Kovacs was, although still eligible to play for the U18, mostly active for the U20 juniors. He also played another three appearances with the professionals.
In 2015 he was selected in the KHL Junior Draft by CSKA Moscow and in the NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers . A little later, Kovács moved from AIK Solna , who had meanwhile been relegated to the second class HockeyAllsvenskan , to Rögle BK from the Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL), which, however, awarded him directly to the AIK after four appearances in the first division.
In July 2016, Kovács signed an entry-level contract with the New York Rangers, although it remains open for the time being whether he will move directly to the organization or play for another year in his home country.
International
On an international level, Kovacs was used in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2013 , which he won with the Swedish team. He also represented his home country in the same year at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2013 .
