River course

Rock Creek has its origins in Lower Pine Lake , a small reservoir 30 km southeast of the town of Spokane in the Turnball National Wildlife Refuge . It flows through the northern Columbia Plateau in a predominantly southwestern direction. At the upper reaches is the small reservoir Chapman Lake . After 15 km it reaches the northeast end of the 7 km long Bonnie Lake . Below the lake, Rock Creek flows 5.4 km southwest before flowing into the northeast end of 11.6 km long Rock Lake . Above the confluence, Pine Creek meets the river from the left. The river valley between the two lakes is called Hole in the Ground . Like the two lakes, it was formed during the Missoula Floods at the end of the last glacial period about 10,000 years ago. Below Rock Lake, Rock Creek flows 10 km to the southwest, then 10 km to the west and finally the last 25 km to the south. The Rock Creek finally flows into the Palouse River 10 km west of Winona . The Rock Creek catchment area covers 2,471 km². It has little rainfall. Irrigated agriculture takes place in places along the river.
