Rockefeller State Park Preserve is a state park in Sleepy Hollow Westchester County , New York . The park is located in the eastern foothills of the Hudson River in Westchester County . It covers 6.28 km² (1552 acres ) and has a significant history. It was donated to the State of New York in 1983 by the Rockefeller family.
geography
The Rockefeller State Park Preserve has been designated an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society with more than 180 species of birds. There are carriage trails and popular lookout points. There are 51 km of horse-drawn carriage trails in the park, allowing visitors to visit the various habitats. The landscape consists of a variety of pastures, groves and woodland, meandering streams, wetlands and the 9.7 hectare (24 acre) Swan Lake .
The Preserve is immediately adjacent to the Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery ( Cedar Hill , Battle Hill ). In addition, it borders extensive lands that belong to the Rockefeller family and are also open to the public. The trails in the private lands are still used by the Rockefellers and connect to the trails in the park. Many of these were created by John D. Rockefeller (Sr.) and his descendants. The park is accessible from Sleepy Hollow Road and Bedford Road / Route 448 in Sleepy Hollow . Part of the park is located west of the Preserve on the Hudson River . This part is known as the Rockwood Hall Section .

The park offers hiking, jogging, horse riding, bird watching and fishing. The visitor center has a small art gallery that exhibits works by local artists.
Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture , a "non-profit agricultural and educational center for promoting sustainable food production." can be reached on foot from the park.
The park is open all year round from sunrise to sunset. There is a parking fee.
In popular culture
The park entrance on New York State Route 117 and the street itself were the filming location for the 2002 comedy Super Troopers .
