Rocket 88

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rocket 88 was an English boogie band and supergroup founded in 1978 , named after the song of the same name by Pete Johnson .

history

Alexis Korner , Jack Bruce (Cream), Charlie Watts (Rolling Stones), Bob Hall and Ian Stewart (Rolling Stones) got together in 1978 to make boogie music in the style of the early 1950s . Several concerts were played, one of which was recorded in the Rotation Club in Hanover in 1979 with the Rolling Stones' mobile recording studio and released in 1981 as an album called Rocket 88 . After the deaths of Ian Stewart and Alexis Korner, the project dissolved in the mid-1980s. Another distinctive feature of their sound was a brass section, which consisted of changing line-ups. In 2011 a tribute album by pianist Ben Waters was released for Ian Stewart, who died in 1985, on which Bring It On Home to Me , recorded in 1984 at the Montreux Jazz Festival , also contains a track from Rocket 88.
