The ROCKWOOL International A / S is the world's largest manufacturer of insulation materials and systems from rock wool . It has 42 production facilities in Europe, North America and Asia as well as sales companies in 37 countries.

The company's headquarters are in Hedehusene, west of the Danish capital, Copenhagen , on whose stock exchange the company is listed. In 2016, the ROCKWOOL Group generated total sales of 2.2 billion euros with around 11,000 employees.

The GERMAN ROCKWOOL GmbH & Co. KG with administrative headquarters in North Rhine-Westphalia Gladbeck had an annual turnover of approximately 313 million euros in 2016 with around 1,300 employees at four German sites. At the Gladbeck, Flechtingen and Neuburg an der Donau sites , stone wool products are produced for the following business areas:

Various types of rock such as diabase , basalt and dolomite as well as other mineral additives are used as the basic material for the production of rock wool . These rocks can be extracted in open-cast mining. Production begins with the melting of the rock at a temperature of around 1500 ° C. The molten rock is then broken up into fibers. Binding and impregnating agents are already added to the fibers . The fibers treated in this way are collected in a collecting chamber to form a wool fleece. This fleece is compressed to the desired consistency and then cured at temperatures of around 230 ° C. The compression, the binder content and the orientation of the fibers in the wool are decisive for the specific requirements that the finished product will meet.

HECK Wall Systems GmbH & Co.KG (previously: BASF Wall Systems GmbH & Co.KG) in Marktredwitz has been part of the ROCKWOOL Group since January 1, 2014.

In addition to insulation solutions for heat , noise and fire protection , ROCKWOOL offers an extensive seminar program for trade, craftsmen and planners.
