Roddy Woomble (born August 13, 1976 in Irvine , Scotland ) is a Scottish singer, best known as the lead singer of the rock band Idlewild .
Live and act
In 1995 Woomble founded the band Idlewild with Rod Jones, Phil Scanlon and Colin Newton, who have released six albums to date.
Besides Woomble worked with the The Reindeer Section , a Scottish indie - supergroup together and appeared on the album Girl Who Could not Fly the English folk singer Kate Rusby .
On July 24th, 2006 Woomble released his first Scottish folk influenced solo album, My Secret Is My Silence , produced by Scottish folk musician John McCusker . In addition to McCusker, the folk singers Kate Rusby and Karine Polwart also worked on this album.
In 2007 Woomble initiated the CD Ballads of the Book , on which Scottish musicians such as Aereogramme , Vashti Bunyan , Karine Polwart and Idlewild have written and played songs to texts by Scottish writers such as Edwin Morgan and Ian Rankin .
Woomble is married to Ailidh Lennon , bass player in the group Sons and Daughters .
