Rodney John Allam

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rodney John Allam , MBE (born 1940 in St. Helens , Lancashire ) is an English chemical engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers , who invented inventions related to power generation, in particular the Allam power cycle, a fossil fuel production process with integrated carbon dioxide capture , can be attributed.

Career

Allam was with Air Products & Chemicals for 44 years, most recently as Director of Technological Development. In 2004 he was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire for environmental services. He was also visiting professor at the Imperial College of Science and Technology and lead author of the 2005 IPCC Special Report on Carbon Capture and Storage. In 2007 the IPCC was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize together with Al Gore . His work includes new processes and systems for the production of gases and cryogenic liquids such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and helium. Some of these gases are usually produced by air separation, a necessary step in the practical application of the Allam cycle, in which gaseous fossil fuels such as natural gas or gaseous coal are burned with pure oxygen. A 50 MW demonstration plant built in Texas went into operation in 2018. In 2012, Allam received the Global Energy Prize together with the Russian scientists Valery Kostuk and Boris Katorgin for their work on processes and energy generation. Since January 2017 he has been chairman of the board of trustees for the award. Allam has been working for 8 Rivers Capital since November 2016, including marketing the Allam cycle.
