Rogelio Salmona
Rogelio Salmona (* 1927 in Paris ; † October 3, 2007 ) was a Colombian architect .
Life
Rogelio Salmona was born in Paris in 1927 to a Spanish father and a French mother; the family moved to Colombia early. He studied architecture at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia .
In the early 1950s, Salmona worked with Le Corbusier in Paris on his project for the new capital in Chandigarh in the Indian state of Punjab . In the mid-1950s he opened his own office in Bogotá . Well-known works by Salmona are a house for Gabriel García Márquez in Cartagena , the Colombian National Archives Archivo General and the Biblioteca Pública Virgilio Barco .
In 2003, Salmona was the first Latin American architect to receive the Alvar Aalto Medal , among other awards .
