Roger Goodell

Roger Stokoe Goodell (born February 19, 1959 in Jamestown , New York ) is an American football official . He is currently the Commissioner of the National Football League .

Career

Goodell's career began in 1982 after graduating in Economics at Washington & Jefferson College , as he completed a three-month internship with the NFL Management. After the internship, he worked for a year in the press department of the New York Jets , after which he was offered an assistant coaching position, which he declined to work in the public relations department of the NFL. In 1987 he was appointed Assistant to the President of the American Football Conference , Lamar Hunt , by then Commissioner Pete Rozelle . In December 2001, he was named Chief Operating Officer and NFL Vice President by then NFL Commissioner, Paul Tagliabue . In September 2006 he was elected Commissioner of the National Football League to succeed Tagliabue.

Personal

Goodell is married to former presenter Jane Skinner , with whom he has two children. He is the son of former Senator Charles Goodell .
