RJB Knight

Roger John Beckett Knight , always quoted by RJB Knight (born April 11, 1944 ), is a British naval historian specializing in the navy in the 18th century. He was at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich .

Knight studied at Trinity College Dublin and the University of Sussex and received his doctorate in 1972 from University College London ("The Royal Dockyards in England at the time of the American War of Independence"). From 1974 he was a curator at the National Maritime Museum, where he held various functions (archive, exhibitions) and was most recently deputy director. After his retirement in 2001 he taught naval history at the University of Greenwich , from 2005 as professor of naval history.

Among other things, he wrote a biography of Horatio Nelson and studied shipbuilding in the Royal Navy in the 18th century and the organization of the Royal Navy in the fight against Napoleon and its cooperation with civilian utilities.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society , was its Vice President from 1992 to 2006 and was Senior Vice President of the Navy Records Society and was.

For his 2005 book, The pursuit of victory: the life and achievement of Horatio Nelson, Knight was awarded the Mountbatten Maritime Prize, The Duke of Westminster's Medal for Military Literature, and the Anderson Medal of the Society of Nautical Research.
